Go back in time at Old Panama
Old Panama is the archaeological site where Panama City was located from its foundation. The city was founded in 1519 and remained there until Henry Morgan sacked it in 1671. The site remained abandoned for nearly 200 years before being re-discovered by American businessman William Nelson Cromwell who had plans to build a canal through Central America. His dream was never realized, and he passed away before work began on his project.
The Amador Causeway
The Amador Causeway connects Panama City with four islands: Naos, Perico, Culebra and Flamenco. It was constructed in 1913, with rocks excavated during the construction of the Panama Canal. Is a great place to walk, bike, have a nice lunch or dinner and even buy some souvenirs.

In Panama City itself you can find many different kinds of food—the most popular dishes include sancocho (a stew made with chicken or pork), tamales (a cornmeal pastry filled with meat or fish), and ceviche (raw fish marinated in lime juice).
- Tamales: These are made with ground corn wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in boiling water or baked in an oven. They can be filled with chicken or beef and served with cheese and black olives.
- Ceviche: This dish is made by mixing raw fish with lemon juice or vinegar to cure it while preserving its flavor. It’s usually accompanied by onions and tomatoes on top of a cracker-like biscuits.
- Sancocho: A chicken stew made with tubers like otoe, yams and cassava, corn, green plantain with coriander leaves.
